Social media has played a big role in any individual. It encompasses a lot of platforms wherein anyone could do whatever he/she desires. Ever since technology has advanced, everyone practically used it as way of communicating with other and basically doing everything they wish to do. Simply put, social media is everywhere and you could use it whenever and wherever you are.
Being media and information literate individual basically means that you are being responsible individual in anything you post and/or read over the net. As said in the introduction, anyone could post anything in social media. By being a media and information literate individual, you should at least know how to distinguish legitimate information from those that are not. Being such also means that you are aware of the consequences that may arise when posting just whatever you want such as photos of you in wherever you are going to, your personal info’s, etc. For example, when you encounter people post their comment without appropriate intelligent support. You should know that you should just let them say whatever they want and not fight with them anymore. You should not add up to the heat they have been putting on some issues that are sometimes irrelevant to what’s really happening. Another example is when using Twitter. Sometimes, people tend to just post/tweet everything they feel and/or do such as “Nakamove on na ako sayo…” I mean, not everyone would gain interest on such things like that. Post something that would really matter or something that would contribute to society.
Being a Media and Information literate individual is knowing what to post, what to read, and what to share with others. It simply means that you are responsible enough of using social media. We all know that our technology nowadays are very useful in our everyday lives, but we also need to understand that it is also very powerful; enough for us to be able to do/commit anything. Let us just be intelligent and responsible enough human beings. Let us just spread peace and happiness in everything we do/post in social media.
