Critical thinking is the ability to think logically and rationally in a given situation. It is when we are able to know what to do and believe well. When we are being critical thinkers, we are able to distinguish legit ideas from fake ones. It is present to us if we can synthesize ideas well. As we all know media literacy is about being able to understand, evaluate, and create media. It means that we know what we post and what we read on different forms of media. It also means that we understand thoroughly what we are getting from different forms of media.
It is important for us students to have critical thinking skills while using or reading media because we are the ones who often base our information through media. We are the “first-hand” consumers of media. That is why we really need to be critical thinkers to avoid being deceived by some other people around social media and other forms of media. Being critical thinkers, we are able to read media with rational mindset and we are able to create media with logical ideas. It is very important for us students to remember that we can always get anything from media and that we could always be deceived by propagandas and other types of misleading information. If we are not being critical thinkers while reading media, we might consume ideas that are fake and not logical.
