We were told to write an essay about the “Effects of New Media to the Filipino Youth: Positive or Negative?” I entitled my essay this way because I will only be focusing on the negative effects of New Media to the Filipino Youth. Yes, there will also be positive effects, but I believe that there will be more negative effects of it to the Filipino Youth.
Media, nowadays, are so powerful and at the same time deceiving to people. The new media, is a really huge platform and it is where you can post whatever you want. For example, you just edit any announcement of no classes and post it as if you are a legit organization which really broadcasts these kinds of announcements. A lot of people, especially, students would then believe to what you are posting. Some news that are being brought to the new media can also mislead a Filipino youth by not being aware of the sites or organization that can be trusted. Filipino youth who have easy access on the new media, and are not really aware of what’s really happening, what the truth is, may not be able to get the correct news and information they deserve.
New media is very powerful and if we are not careful of using it, there might be a lot of negative effects on us. We should not be controlled by the New Media, but we should control ourselves over the power of New Media.
